New Zealand Welcomes Rugby World Cup Teams

By Andrew Gibson

Auckland’s Sky City’s Sky Tower will light up with the national colours of all of the teams of the rugby world cup. It will represent one team a night for the twenty days leading up to the first match of the tournament. The tower is a big attraction, very visible and popular in the city of Auckland, where the tournament will be held. It is the 12th highest tower in the world and standing at 328 meters tall it is bigger than the Eiffel Tower.

The light show started off on the 21st August with Namibia when the tower had a green stem and a red and blue top and then followed with USA, Romania, Russia, Georgia, Canada, Japan, Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Italy and Argentina. In September there will be Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, England, South Africa, Australia and lastly New Zealand.

It also provides a link to Sky City which is the busiest part of the city where there are hotels and a casino, entertainment and dining opportunities as well. There are also several new restaurants opening up before the world cup. There will also be a selection of new bars and wineries, most of which have already opened.  At the bottom of the tower there is a shop which has been brought together by Weta Workshop joining forces with the Sky Tower and Sky City and it will sell models of the Weta Stable such as Lord of the Rings Collectables. The shop has a well known Wellington store selling wizards items.
