Positioned on the banks of Lake Geneva, ski chalets and apartments in Montreux is a popular holiday rental destination. There are many things to do in the area, including walking and hiking around the lake. It is also close to some ski resorts including Villars sur Ollon which has 100km of pistes, so if you visit in the right season you will have the opportunity to take part in some winter sports.
There are places to visit as well including Chateau de Chillon which is the most widely visited tourist attraction in Switzerland and is a very interesting castle made up of over 100 interlinked buildings. There are historical exhibits to see. Culturally the town is interesting and has a statue of Freddie Mercury, who once lived there and they hold a memorial day for him every year. There are many shops in the town to visit as well and many restaurants and bars when staying in self catering accommodation. The town has a busy night life including the Montreux casino which is very popular especially since it was rebuilt in 1975 after a fire there. Being such a popular place, there is good rail, ferry and bus links to other places. This means it is easy to explore the surrounding area even if you do not have a car. You could maybe choose to go to Vevey which is a market town nearby or somewhere much bigger such as Lausanne.
The town tends to stay warm in summer with temperature above twenty degrees. It can occasionally drop below zero in the winter but with rainfall being the same all year; it is a popular place to stay whatever season it is.
