Many people also choose to visit the harbour and watch the fishing boats coming in and out. Many visitors choose the area because they like an active holiday, as there is a lot for people to experience with regards to sports. There is a golf course which was established in the 19th century and so many people enjoy playing it from a historical point of view as well as to have fun.
Others prefer to have a quiet fishing trip as the waters are rich with trout and salmon, but you do need a permit from the Gairloch Chandlery. The surrounding hills are popular with hikers and provide fantastic views form the top. There are also the Torridon Mountains nearby which are extremely beautiful and can be quite tough to climb. So make sure that before departing for your self catering holiday cottage that you take all the equipment with you that you will need.
