The Scottish Highlands is probably the most beautiful part of Scotland with regards to the landscapes. It is therefore a fantastic location for anyone who loves nature and perhaps who likes photographing it or drawing and painting it. Another thing which attracts people to rent holiday cottage accommodation in this area is the fact that the landscapes are so diverse and so there is so much to see.

There are lochs and rivers if you like water as well as coasts and then there are the mountains as well as flatter ground. With all of these different environments, it means that there is plenty of different things to do with regards to sport, leisure, relaxation and recreation. Many people choose to rent a croft or cottage because they can be a way to experience authentic Scottish life although there are also city apartments or large farmhouses available as well. It just depends on what you are actually looking for and how many people you are travelling with.

Choosing where to stay could be difficult, with so much going on, but it is worth thinking about what you want from the holiday. If you love sport then you may consider being near the mountains and do some skiing or if you want to be near the water then a location near a river or Loch Ness could be for you. There is also the city of Inverness which can offer shopping, restaurants and bars or a remote village where you can really wind down and relax. If you are a golfer, then it is also good to know that the area has lots of golf courses and so wherever you are staying in your holiday rental home, you will always be close to one. The area is therefore a fantastic location for a family self catering holiday as there is something for everyone to do.
