Self catering holiday accommodation, caravans and chalets in Ayrshire
Ayrshire is on the Clyde coast in the south west of Scotland and has a lot to offer the visitor. There is a lot of rural scenery as well as outdoor activities to take part in and the place has an interesting history as well. Many people choose self-catering accommodation as a base for their holiday where they may choose a gourmet break, activity holiday or just something relaxing and unplanned.
There are plenty of places to buy local produce to cook in your holiday home but you may also like to visit some of the restaurants and pubs in the area to have a break from cooking and try some traditional fare. The area is great because not only does it have great scenery and an interesting culture but the people are friendly as well. There are some good places to visit as well such as castles and towers. Try seeing Culzean and Brodick as well as the Viking Centre and the Burns Museum, meaning that there is plenty to learn about the area. If you want even more then the tourist office will be able to give you a list of historical sites to visit.
Golf is something which is very popular in the area as well with Prestwick, Troon and Turnberry being the most famous in the area all of which have hosted the Open Golf Championship. The countryside is also something which needs exploring as it is so picturesque. You may choose to go by foot or on a bike and perhaps even arrange a walking holiday in the area.
There are lots of trails which can be followed, some easy and others more difficult and longer depending on how long you want to be out and how far you wish to travel. Many trails have a public house nearby which can be a big welcome at the end of a day wandering through the mountains. Many people also choose to stay in holiday cottages in the Isle of Arran or in fact spend the whole of their stay there. It has a selection of little villages and the coastal areas as well as the woods provide a beautiful backdrop for whatever you wish to do there. It is a secluded area and therefore more relaxing and peaceful than maybe the other areas of Ayrshire.
