Galamares is a draw for visitors who like golf and who like beaches as it offers both with many cheap apartment rentals and large villas with pools to book online. The beaches are sandy and attract many visitors, some of which like to surf and others who just like to sunbathe and relax. There are many golf courses in the area which is why it is popular with golfers. Around the town is the Sinta Cascais Natural Park which has many attractions both natural and historical and so is of interest to anyone who enjoys nature, the outdoors or learning about the history of a place.
The village itself is quiet and very traditional, meaning that you can get a great idea of the culture of the area and also have ample opportunity to relax. The town tends to have more locals than tourists but still has enough facilities such as food shops to keep self-catering visitors happy. It is not too far to get to Sintra where there are plenty of food shops if you want more variety as well as lots to look at with its 19th century architecture and general beauty of the town.
Cobo de Roca is also worth a visit, with its 144m high lighthouse. Most people plan their self catering holiday in Galamares accommodation in the warm weather which is from July to September when it gets up to the high twenties. However, it stays warm all of the year round so if you want to visit at a quieter time and do sightseeing then it could be worth renting holiday accommodation outside of the summer season.
