If you like the idea of staying in a traditional village then Ferragudo accommodation could be the place for you. It has never left its fishing village background and so there are many unspoilt local properties and although there are new holiday apartments and luxury villas as well, they have been built in the traditional style to keep the village looking good.
It is a beautiful area and is near to Praia Grande beach which has great facilities from windsurfing and jet skiing to scuba diving and canoeing. However, there are more secluded beaches if you just want to take it easy. You can leave your holiday rental home and head to Praia Canarais or Praia Pintadinho if this is what you want and you may even be able to explore the caves at low tide.
The village itself is well worth exploring as there is a square with cafes in it and this is where you can mix with locals and get a feel of traditional life. There are cobbled streets with white washed house, shops and cafes in them which are great to see and also the Castelo de Soa Joao above the village.
There is a golf resort just outside of the village as well as some championship courses a little further away. If you fancy exploring outside of the town, there is Portimao with fine beaches and sports which is worth visiting. Temperatures in the area stay in the late twenties for most of the summer and do not drop below 15 degrees even in the winter. As a result it is not just during the summer season that the holiday rental accommodation in the village is popular, but for the whole of the year.
