De Bikkels Forest Park lies in the middle of De Peel. Here you can regularly spot wild birds: playing with their mates in the trees, looking for food or observing the surroundings from your open terrace. You know by now what a colorful and nature-friendly park De Bikkels is! But it also makes an excellent operating base for pleasant hiking and cycling trips in the neighborhood as well as for exciting outings with the whole family. The well-maintained park is in De Peel, which is a magnificent, ever-changing country of peat moors, natural pools, waterways, heath lands and sand ridges. This is also the nesting place of a variety of bird species as well as a stopping point for cranes and geese on their migratory journey. From olden days, De Peel has been known for its peat digging. Peat used to be an important source of energy and was easy to dig in opencast mines. Since peat was substituted by coal and oil, De Peel has served primarily as a fascinating natural landscape. It is a home to app. 125 bird species and a large diversity of bovine animals and goats. But it is also situated close to some of the finest tourist attractions in the area, such as the little Peel villages of Griendtsveen and Helenaveen and the nature reserves of Brouwhuisse, Somerense and De Strabrechtse Heide (the Heath of Strabrecht). If you would like to spend an enjoyable day out with the kids, there is De Efteling amusement park. Here you can plunge into the dream world of Pandas, experience wild adventures with Piranhas or pay a visit to the Fairytale Forest. In Deurne you will find the indoor play paradise of Trollenland (The Land of Trolls). An entire day of fun here costs just €4.50 per child. Parents and accompanying adults are free!
