The town of Louisburgh in County Mayo is located on the Bunowen River and is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town is surrounded by pretty countryside, has many amenities and three Blue Flag beaches. Also nearby is the Sheaffrey and Mweelrea Mountains. A ferry from Roonagh Pier to Clare Island is well worth catching and on a clear day views of Connemara and Achill can be seen. Other places that are worth visiting are Murrisk, which is eight miles from Louisburgh and Westport, ten miles from Louisburgh. There is a lot to see and do in this part of County Mayo.
The West of Ireland conjures up many images; thatched, whitewashed cottages, a flock of sheep on a narrow road, an emerald green field with a stone wall, or the Atlantic waves crashing into towering cliffs and rocky shores.
