The lovely village of Braithwaite is set between the stunning Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite lakes – amongst the most beautiful in the country. Running through the village itself is the Coledale Beck, adding to the old-world charm of the settlement and lending its whitewashed cottages, two local shops and real ale Inns a unique, picturesque quality. With many local walks, from countryside rambles to hiking trips up Skiddaw, it is easy to see why this is a popular destination amongst hill-walkers. For those who prefer a more leisurely vacation, there is plenty to do – the open air theatre, grand house and gardens of Mirehouse are worth a visit, if only for the wonderful lakeside views. In addition, Trotters Farm, Dodd Wood and Keswick are all within easy driving distance.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
