About St Gilgen
St Gilgen is to the east of Salzburg and is in 'The Sound of Music' country and many traditional holiday rentals to stay in. Throughout the year there is plenty going on and so visitors are not just limited to the snowy winter months. The scenery is breathtaking all year round with the Wolfgangsee Lake and surrounding mountains always looking spectacular, whether covered in snow or grass. Look from you apartment rental and marvel at the breathtaking views. There are many things to do when staying in ski chalets and so you have the choice of relaxing and planning a few small activities or packing your holiday full of everything possible.
The Zwolferhorn Mountain is easy to get to and has all sorts of winter sports available including skating, tobogganing, snowboarding and skiing. As cable cars run to the summit from the village and it means that it is easy to get there and you get a great chance to view the scenery as you travel. There are also walking paths around the village if you would rather explore on foot and the lake can be crossed by boat.
In the summer you can even play golf or tennis, fish or sail and paraglide or horse ride. There is a Mozart museum in the village, because his mother was born here which is located at her old home and there is the St Aegidius church which is worth a visit as Mozarts grandparents were married here and it has an interesting architectural history.
The village of Strobl is within easy reach and has many activities on offer including water sports and is also picturesque with the St Sigismund Parish Church worth a visit. The weather can get as hot as the mid twenties in the summer but below freezing in the winter and so depending on what interests you, you will need to plan the time of your visit carefully.
