We are a small team who are dedicated to providing the best holiday rental search experience we possibly can. Our backgrounds are managing robust and safe websites such as Abbey National and cahoot.com online banking - that was before our entrepreneurial streak made us want to go it alone!

Our Story - Why CompareaAway Began

Our story begins with Chris Bradley (co-founder), his family and friends stood outside a villa in a resort in Costa Dorada, Spain in 2007. Rented direct from the owner through the Internet, everything seemed fine until we pulled up outside the villa in our hire cars only to find the villa already occupied.

As it turns out, the person we had rented the villa from didn’t actually own it. Despite Chris working in IT at an Internet bank for a FTSE100 organisation for the last 9 years, he was scammed by a very convincing and professional fraudster. Local police confirmed this happens several times per week in their resort alone. Forced to rent two local top floor apartments, the holiday was “unforgettable” for all of the wrong reasons.

Back home, a quick google search showed hundreds of other people who’d been scammed in the same way. Chris knew there must be many people who want the ability to find self catering holiday rentals with the safety and security of being backed by a real, trusted, proven agent. Later that week, over a beer with a friend, the idea of CompareAway was planned out on the back of a beer mat.

And with that, friend and successful entrepreneur Andrew Gibson joined the team and CompareAway was officially born. We now list 150,000 agent managed holiday rentals in 11,239 cities in the top 50 holiday countries of the world. All the properties we list are backed by leading agents offering services like ABTA approval, 24 hour help lines, inspected properties and crucially the guarantee that the property exists and your holiday is guaranteed.
